Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is also sometimes called chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS). This syndrome is characterized by extreme fatigue, short term memory problems, and pain in the joints and muscles. The symptoms of CFS are not outwardly visible, making it difficult for other people to understand what the CFS sufferer is experiencing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take steps to reduce the level of stress in your life and find ways to cope with life's stress. Consider taking up yoga or other relaxation techniques.

  2. Step 2

Exercise regularly. It is hard to even consider exercising when you are suffering from the feeling of exhaustion that comes with CFS, but exercise has been proved to reduce the symptoms. Start out slowly and work your way up as you are able to. You might want to see a physical therapist to help you to develop an exercise routine.

  3. Step 3

Maintain a healthy life style to decrease your chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms. Eat a healthy balanced diet, limit the amount of caffeine you consume, drink plenty of water and get a food night's sleep.

  4. Step 4

Organize your daily schedule so the most demanding activities are done during the time of day that you typically feel your best. Schedule rest time before and after each activity. Divide more difficult chores into smaller parts and rest between each part. Do not schedule too many difficult activities for the same day.

  5. Step 5

Recognize and accept your limitations. Say no when someone asks you to do something you can not do. Tell them why you have to say no, and if possible, suggest another day or a different activity that is less demanding.

  6. Step 6

Establish a support network. Reach out to friends and family and let them know how they can help. Join a support group for CFS sufferers, your doctor should be able to put you in touch with a local group. Consider professional counseling if your CFS is causing depression.

  7. Step 7

Find a way to do some of the activities you used to enjoy doing. Do not stop doing everything that you used to like to do because CFS has zapped you of your energy. It is important to still do some activities for fun, even if those activities have to be modified. For example if you used to enjoy gardening, but it has become too difficult, grow a couple of plants in the house instead.
