Venom is the primary form of defense of many animals. When most people think of venom they only think of snakes but many spiders, insects and amphibians are venomous. When a human comes in contact with venom they can develop venom poisoning which is potentially life threatening. Follow these steps to learn how you can avoid venom poisoning.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a stick when walking through high grass. Move the grass around to warn snakes that you are approaching so you don't startle them and make them feel the need to bite you.

  2. Step 2

Dress in light colored clothing and avoid using perfume when spending time outdoors. Insects are attracted to bright colors, if you are stung by a bee or other insect you are at risk for developing venom poisoning.

  3. Step 3

Step onto logs before stepping over. If you step over a log without looking you could step onto a venomous snake that's out sunbathing.

  4. Step 4

Be aware of your surroundings. When working in a garage or around woodpiles watch where you put your hands; venomous spiders live in dark corners and will bite if they feel threatened.

  5. Step 5

Wear high boots and long pants when walking in areas where you could come in contact with a snake. Use work gloves when working in areas where you may come in contact with spiders.

  6. Step 6

Remember venomous creatures don't want to bite you; they don't like wasting venom on things they can't eat. If you avoid them they will avoid you.
