Remote areas benefit greatly from solar power. You can use wood for cooking and even heating, however, when it comes to electrical items, solar power is the best idea. Solar power is a wonderful alternative, if you live far away from other forms of electricity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Determine the amount of power you expect to need on a daily basis and contact solar power generating companies. You can buy all your solar power supplies from one of these companies, which you can find easily on the Internet.
Step2
Buy a cottage solar kit that takes care of your electricity needs for the entire cabin. Most are all inclusive and the company will install them at your cabin. The retailer is your best source of advice on what type of batteries you need to hold the power pulled in.
Step3
Take advantage of the power generated and use only what you need while you are at the cottage. Allow the remainder of the collected power to go back into the grid.
Step4
Power lights, a few kitchen appliances and a television set easily with solar power at your cabin.
Step5
Include the use of a generator in your cottage setup. The generator kicks in when the solar power and battery runs low.

Tips & Warnings

  • A cottage solar power kit supplies minimal power needs for a small cabin that is not constantly used.
  • If buying from the Internet, research the solar power equipment company thoroughly. Check with the Better Business Bureau to get a good idea from whom you are buying.
