When a person begins to plan for a wedding it is important to establish a financial guideline or budget for each part of the process. Purchasing the wedding food is no different. Without making a budget for wedding food the expenses can spiral out of control.

Determine the amount you want to spend on the wedding cake. This is major part of the food cost for your wedding.

Shop around for a cake maker and compare the prices of each maker. Some people only go to one or two cake bakeries before choosing a cake for the wedding. You should visit at least four bakeries and then compare the prices of each.

Ascertain just how many guests are coming to the reception. Then add in an additional 10 percent to the attendance figure, because there are always unexpected guests and you do not want to run out of food.

Determine what type of food you want to serve at the wedding. You may want to have a certain theme or certain types of food depending on religious and cultural preferences.

Visit at least four caterers that serve the type of food you want to serve at the wedding. Ask each one the charge for each person served.

Multiply the number from Step 3 by the average cost of food per person that you attained from Step 5. Then add the cost of the wedding cake and there you have the budgeted cost of the wedding food.
