How to Serve Beef Stew in a Bread Bowl
Warm up your family and friends on a cold evening and serve some hot and hearty beef stew in a bread bowl. It's a great meal any time, and has the added benefit that you get to eat the bowl, leaving very little clean up. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Beef stew
- Medium-sized round bread, or cannonballs
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Minced garlic
- Pastry brush
- Salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
-
-
1
Make a batch of your favorite beef stew or buy a good quality canned stew.
-
2
Heat the stew in a saucepan, a slow cooker or in the microwave oven. The stew should be heated through and ready to serve.
-
-
3
Cut the top neatly off each round bread with a serrated knife. Scoop out the center of the bread carefully with a paring knife or spoon.
-
4
Heat the olive oil in a small skillet and add the minced garlic. Saute the garlic until it's tender.
-
5
Brush the garlic butter on the inside of the bread bowls with a pastry brush. This will add delicious flavor and will help to seal the inside of the bowl.
-
6
Place the bread bowls in a 350-degree oven for a few minutes until the bread is hot and slightly crispy.
-
7
Ladle the hot stew into the hot bread bowls. If the stew seems too thin, drain off a bit of liquid or thicken it with a bit of cornstarch mixed in water. If the stew is too thin, it will seep into the bread too quickly.
