If your wedding ceremony or reception will take place on a beach or at a beachfront resort, create invitations that reflect the setting. Evoke the look and feel of the ocean with colors, textures and shapes that will make the cards as memorable as the event itself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardstock
  • Paper crimper
  • Texture spray paint
  • Netting or mesh
  • Patterned paper
  • Rubber stamp and ink
  • Vellum
  • Jute or ribbon
  • Hole punch
  • Embellishments
  1. Step 1

Trim cardstock to fit your envelopes. Create the wedding invitations in a single layer rather than folding the cardstock over like a traditional greeting card. Consider cardstock in beach-like hues such as oatmeal, white or light blues and greens.

  2. Step 2

Give texture to the background by running oatmeal-colored cardstock through a wave paper crimper to create the look of sand. You can also spray the heavyweight cardstock with light brown stone texture paint that will resemble actual sand. A layer of mesh or netting will also give the cards a cool look. (See Resources)

  3. Step 3

Add interest without texture by covering the cardstock with a piece of beautiful patterned paper (check the "vacation" section of your local scrapbook store for beach-themed designs) or appropriate rubber stamp images like shells, sandcastles or romantic tropical flowers.

  4. Step 4

Print the details of the wedding on a piece of vellum. Study other invitations to find the wording the suits the tone and style of your event. Consider tearing the vellum along the bottom rather than trimming it straight across to create the look of a foamy wave. (See Resources)

  5. Step 5

Attach the vellum to the cardstock by positioning it exactly where you want it to appear. Hold the two pieces securely and punch two small holes across the top about an inch apart. Push a piece of ribbon or natural-colored jute down through both holes, then pull each end up through the opposite hole. Trim the ends on an angle.

  6. Step 6

Embellish the invitations to further the beach theme with stickers, small die cuts or even small dried shells like sand dollars or starfish. (See Resources)
