Step 1
Decide on a theme. Many hip hop songs are about expensive possessions, money or a problem with a girlfriend or boyfriend. Put together an outline of what you want to include in your song.
-
Step 2
Write lyrics that cover your subject matter. The songs should have rhyming couplets throughout the verses. There should also be a catchy refrain that fits in between each of the verses. The song should start out with a verse, then have the refrain, then another verse and so on.
-
Step 3
Come up with a catchy beat. The beat should be one that is played throughout the song and fits in well with your lyrics. A synthesizer can be used to create the beat, or you can use music software.

Step 4
Try out the song and see how it sounds. You will likely want to make changes a few times to get the right flow. If the line sounds too awkward when it's sung, it should be altered. Sing the song for someone else to get another perspective. Listen to the feedback and try out the changes that are suggested and see if they improve the song.

Step 5
Record the song on a demo CD and submit it to record companies and agents.
