If you have a love for animals, then opening up a pet store could be a dream come true. Even though you may want to sell every animal species, it's impossible to house every one. Unless of course, your name is Noah and you have access to a large ark.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Speak with people who live around your pet store. Get an idea as to what pets are popular in that location and which pets they would be interested in owning.

  2. Step 2

Accept that dogs and cats are the most popular household pet in the world. Allow for ample space within your store to house dogs and cats for sale.

  3. Step 3

Consider selling reptiles and amphibians in your store. Educate the prospective buyer on how to care for and handle these pets, as they are newcomers in the pet world.

  4. Step 4

Select pets that are low maintenance to have available in the store. Many people like the idea of a pet but don't want the added responsibility. Low maintenance pets require as little as 15 minutes of your time a day. Some of these pets are fish, turtles, bunnies, small birds and hamsters.

Tips & Warnings
  • It would be wise to sell pet food in your pet store. When customers come in and purchase a new pet, the first thing they need is food for it. Having food available also forces the customers to come back to your store—and they might even end up purchasing a new pet.
