Almost everyone has experienced rejection. Sometimes you know it's coming, but sometimes it hits like a thunderbolt. Reading body language can help you know when your advances are welcome and when you're likely to experience rejection. Become aware of what body language can tell you about your date's attitudes.

  1. Step 1

Determine whether or not your date is paying attention to you. If her attention keeps wandering, you've got your first clue she doesn't have a romantic interest in you. You don't need to know much about reading body language to tell if your date is preoccupied.

  2. Step 2

Watch your date's eyes to see if they seem to dance and sparkle when you're together. The pupils tend to dilate when the person is around someone of romantic interest to them. If your date's eyes seem small and tired all the time, he may not return your interest.

  3. Step 3

Notice whether your date tries to draw attention to her lips. It may not mean anything if she doesn't, but this gesture could indicate interest if she does.

  4. Step 4

Look for little preening actions. Women play with their hair, men fix their clothes, and both make many other small adjustments to their appearance when around someone they like. However, if your date twirls her hair she may just be bored.

  5. Step 5

Observe whether or not your date's body seems always turned away from you. Closing off one's body to another can signal rejection. Crossed arms and hands in pockets, in particular, indicate a closed attitude.
