How to Approach an Attractive Stranger

Seeing an attractive stranger can be both exhilarating and intimidating. You're intrigued and you want to approach the person, but you're also afraid of looking like a fool or being rejected. This fear is very common, but there are ways around it. You have to practice, so take the opportunity next time you see an attractive stranger you'd like to meet.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the stranger's fingers for engagement or wedding rings to give yourself a heads up. If you see rings, forget it. If there are no rings, proceed with caution.

    • 2

Read the person's body language to determine whether she wants to be approached. If she looks disinterested or like she's hiding, you may not want to interfere. You want your stranger to be open to starting a conversation; this encounter is awkward enough without resistance before you even approach her.

    • 3

Make eye contact if you feel comfortable with the situation. If he meets your glance, smile at him. See what kind of response you get. If he smiles back, do something flirty like wink or mouth "Hi."

    • 4

Move toward her, hopefully with her watching you. When you introduce yourself, avoid clichéd pick-up lines. Introduce yourself and make a little small talk. Comment about the restaurant you're in, the people on the street or whatever comes to mind about your environment. After chatting for a while, determine whether you want this encounter to result in another meeting.

    • 5

Decide if you want to ask the attractive stranger (who is hopefully no longer a stranger) out for drinks or coffee, and do so casually. If you're not ready to commit to another meeting, mysteriously tell him it was lovely to talk, and that you have to be on your way.

Practice often. If you feel intimidated among new people (and attractive ones at that), the only way to conquer your fear is to gain familiarity with the situation, so you need to practice. Soon you'll be the intriguing person in the room that everyone wants to meet.
