How to Get Silver Hair

Dyeing your hair any shade that doesn't naturally occur is a great way to make yourself stand out and make a statement. One color that's harder to obtain and therefore highly uncommon is silver. Since silver is commonly associated with older age, dyeing your hair that color before it's your time to go gray is a sure-fire way to draw attention to yourself.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Determine whether it's possible, given your natural hair color, to bleach your hair white. For natural brunettes and darker, it's challenging to strip color completely from hair. Consult your hairstylist to see if she's willing to attempt this with you. If so, you can get your hair stripped professionally and complete Steps 4 and 5 on your own to save some money.
Step2
Buy a hair-bleaching kit at your local drugstore or supermarket. You may need to purchase two or three, depending on how well your hair responds to the bleaching.
Step3
Follow all instructions on the bleach box exactly, and call the customer service number on the box if you've totally messed up. Repeat as necessary until your hair is white.
Step4
Purchase a silver hair dye. These typically aren't available in stores, as they're less popular. Some are available online, or you can check any costuming stores in your area.
Step5
Dye your hair silver. Again, follow the instructions included in the package precisely.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a non-permanent solution, you can simply buy a can of silver spray at any Halloween or costume store and spray it on. It will wash out--maybe not with just one wash, but it will wash out.
