Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Purchase a car that requires less gasoline to operate. The most common way we use oil is by driving a car. However, if you purchase an electric car for short trips or hybrid car for longer commutes, it will help you survive a decline in oil production and help the environment.
Step2
Use alternative means to heat, cool and power your home. Solar and wind power are two options available in most areas that can significantly reduce your reliance on traditional energy sources that come from oil or natural gas. The initial setup for wind and solar power can be expensive, but the energy savings each year will pay the preliminary monetary outlay.
Step3
Join a local survivor support group. Most communities have groups that will share ideas or resources if there is decline in oil production.
Step4
Establish a garden to grow your own food supply. When oil production decreases, the price of oil will rise, increasing the cost of everything including food supplies. However, if you have a garden that produces food you and your family, it can significantly reduce your dependency on outside and more expensive sources of food.
Step5
Eliminate your credit card and save as much money as possible. Changing your consumption patterns can also help you survive the rising prices that will accompany the decline in oil production. The more cash reserves and less debt you have will keep you economically viable in times of rising prices.
