How to Stop Animated Images in a Browser

Sometimes when you load a website you are confronted with animated images which never stop. This can get annoying as well as slow down your Internet surfing. In all the major browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera you can easily stop these images from moving or flashing. Read on to learn how to stop animated images in a browser.

Stop Animated Images in Internet Explorer

1. Open Internet Explorer and choose "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. You can also get to "Internet Options" from the "Control Panel."
2. Select the "Advanced" tab from "Internet Options." This tab is usually the tab farthest to the right.
3. Scroll to the "Multimedia" section from the "Advanced" tab. When you get to the Multimedia section look for "Play Animations in Webpages."
4. Click the check box next to "Play Animations in Webpages" to remove the check. Animated images will still display, but will not be animated. Click the "OK" button to save your changes.

5. Open Firefox. Type "about.config" into the address bar of the browser. Hit "Enter" to continue.
6. Note the text box at the top of the window which comes up. In this box, type "animation."
7. Double-click on "image.animation_mode." This will bring up a new window with a text box. By default, the word "normal" appears in the text box.
8. Replace the word normal with the word "None." Click the "OK" button to save your changes. This will stop animated images from loading in the browser.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also stop animated images from loading in Opera. To do this, open Opera, hit the "F12" key and click the check box next to "Enable GIF/SVG Animation" to remove the check.
• You can also stop animated images any time by hitting the "Stop" button in any browser.
