Cats sometimes like to eat things they shouldn't, and oftentimes get sick from doing so. While the cause may also be something else, it's not picnic when your cat has diarrhea, so take these steps in order to stop a cat's diarrhea.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Check to see whether there is blood in the diarrhea. If there is blood, call your vet and notify them of the consistency and how much blood is in the stool. They may require you bring him in for an exam or they may direct you to over the counter medications you can use.
Step2
Determine when and how the diarrhea started. The cause can range from a change in food to an allergic reaction or to something more serious such as renal failure or poisoning. Also check that your cat hasn't eaten a poisonous plant.
Step3
Keep your cat hydrated. Make sure he is drinking plenty of fresh water. You may also add water to his food. Eating food he is not used to can cause diarrhea. Inform people that come in contact with your cat not to feed him anything other than his own food.
Step4
Administer any liquid medicine with a syringe. Make sure you hold your cat firmly in order to give the medicine. Wrap his body in a towel if you have to.
Step5
Keep your home stress-free as this can also cause diarrhea. Make sure your cat has a safe place to rest without noise or exposure to other animals. Don't make any loud noises or cause a distraction as this will only prolong the problem.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your cat is also vomiting, schedule an appointment with the vet to get him checked out.
