Whether you are slaloming cones for fun or just trying to avoid a few cracks in the pavement, learning how to weave your way through and around obstacles will make your rollerblading outings a bit more fun. Weaving is really just a series of slight turns, cutting back and forth between your feet. Once you have practiced the basic forward motion you can begin cutting in for a controlled zig-zag. Read on to learn how to weave through obstacles on rollerblades.

From Quick Guide: Rollerblading
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start on a flat surface with enough length to practice weaving a few times in a row without having to turn around. Begin striding from the basic stance.

  2. Step 2

Build up a little speed as you approach your practice area. Keep your knees bent and your shins pushed forward in your boots. As you approach your first cone or obstacle, stop pushing off and glide forward with both feet on the ground and parallel.

  3. Step 3

Shift your weight from both feet to your right foot to move toward the left. Lean your shoulders and hips to the left as well. Your weight should be pressing against the inside edge of your right wheels. Your left foot should be flat and following along.

  4. Step 4

Return your weight to both feet after you have veered far enough to the left. Now shift your weight to the inside edge of your left wheels to move to your right. Repeat this side-to-side movement to slalom through your cones or obstacles.

Tips & Warnings
  • Moving side-to-side on rollerblades or inline skates is similar to slaloming in Alpine skiing.
  • Be careful not to let yourself pick up too much speed as you cut back and forth.
