Because a motorcycle does not have all the safety features of most four-wheeled vehicles, the importance of safety rests on the rider even more. Finding and using riding gear that will protect you is essential if you want to be as safe as possible. Read on to learn how to use motorcycle riding gear.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear a helmet at all times when you ride. You should do this even if it is not required by law where you are riding. A full-face helmet that will cover your entire head is highly recommended.

  2. Step 2

Find a jacket that will protect your upper body. Leather works best, but one made of denim or textile can work if you need something lighter for very warm weather. Just make sure it covers your arms and torso.

  3. Step 3

Get a set of pants to go with the jacket. Most motorcycle shops will have a complete suit available. You can wear your street pants under most textile riding pants, but this may be uncomfortable for long-distance riding.

  4. Step 4

Add gloves that will protect your hands. Since they are made of leather, baseball gloves form a sporting good store can work, but you may want some with a little extra padding in the back.

  5. Step 5

Choose the right type of shoes for riding. A pair of boots that go up at least to your thighs will work the best.

  6. Step 6

Replace any gear that becomes damaged, especially if an accident occurs. This is especially true for the helmet, if it is cracked in any way.
