How to Use Massage Therapy Body Scrubs

Body scrubs are one of the simplest yet most effective ways to both exfoliate the top layer of dead skin as you massage muscles and moisturize everything. While you may think that body scrubs are simply salt and sugar, you can actually use a plethora of oils and natural ingredients for a rejuvenating scrub. Read on to learn how to use massage therapy body scrubs.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a body scrub or make one yourself, depending on what you want. Body care stores like the Body Shop make olive oil body scrubs that gently look in moisture as they exfoliate. For something more specialized, make a body scrub by mixing a teaspoon of flax seed oil with two tablespoons of finely crushed almonds. Add a tsp. of green tea, some chopped parsley and whatever other natural, healthy ingredients you think might benefit you.

Warm the part of the body that you're going to apply the body scrub to by doing some gentle massage. You can place warm, damp cloths on the body to speed the warm-up process. Make sure the person is relaxed and isn't feeling any discomfort (including pain from cuts or sores) before you begin the body scrub.

Apply a liberal amount of the body scrub to a particular area such as the feet, hands, arms or upper back. Work the body scrub into the area by using a gentle massage. If the person can tolerate a bit more pressure then apply some more so that the massage is more thorough. Ease up on the pressure periodically and return to a gentle rubbing motion that focuses on getting the body scrub into the skin.

Place damp cloths on the area that you worked on after you applied the body scrub and did the massage. Wipe the skin off to remove any residue that settled on the surface of the skin. Then, use a fairly heavy body moisturizer or cream to moisturize the area and lock in all the moisture and nutrients that the body scrub provides.
