How to Use the Leg Sweep in Mixed Martial Arts

One technique that can be useful in the Mixed Martial Arts is the leg sweep. It can be an excellent way to not only turn the momentum of your opponent's kick against him, but save yourself from getting kicked in the head.   1. Step 1

    Prepare to use a leg sweep by standing before your opponent in a martial arts stance: one foot before the other, about a shoulder's width apart, with your weight low and centered.

  2. Step 2

    Move forward and to the left as your opponent kicks.

  3. Step 3

    Catch the back of your opponent's knee and hook it with your forearm, and place your right hand near his ankle so you have control of his leg.

  4. Step 4

    Reach forward with your left knee and sweep your opponent's knee forward, sweeping the leg out from beneath him.

  5. Step 5

    Continue lifting with your arms and push to the left, forcing your opponent to fall over backwards as you sweep his supporting leg from beneath him.

  6. Step 6

    Practice the leg sweep over and over in training. It is a useful technique that can be used in mixed martial arts matches. As you become adept at applying the technique, you'll be able to learn how to look for an opportunity to use it.
