Not all beds are created equal, and not every bed is suited for every person. In addition, it isn't uncommon at all for someone to have a sleep disorder that affects their ability to sleep well. In an uncomfortable bed, your sleep problems are even more intense. Read on to learn how to sleep well in an uncomfortable bed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Identify other possible causes of your sleep difficulties. It may not be that you are having problems sleeping well in an uncomfortable bed, rather it may be you are having problems with sleep itself.
Step2
Clear the bedroom of all distractions. This includes lights, sounds and smells. Consider room-darkening shades, a white noise machine and odor-reducing cleaning products.
Step3
Use clean comfortable bedding. While you may be stuck trying to sleep well in an uncomfortable bed, it doesn't mean you can't have comfortable sheets, blankets and pillows.
Step4
Add memory foam to the top of the bed. Memory foam contours to your body's natural shape, providing you with a comfortable spot on top of your uncomfortable bed.
Step5
Practice good sleep habits. Avoid caffeine, nicotine and alcohol within three to four hours prior to bedtime. Develop bedtime routines, in which you prepare your body for sleep.
Step6
Try sleeping in a different position. Use a pillow between your legs, or sleep on your side instead of your back.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't seem to sleep well in any bed at all, consider speaking with your healthcare provider. You may have sleep apnea or another medical condition that makes it hard for you to sleep, rather than just an uncomfortable bed.
