When you are out and you meet someone, you can't always just come out and ask for a phone number without sounding too forward. You need to find a way to interest the person before asking him or her out on a date. Read on to learn how to get someone's phone number.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Introduce yourself. Smile and be confident as you say hello and swap names. Stay away from pickup lines--just say hi and be yourself.

  2. Step 2

Use his name as the two of you continue talking. For example, casually shake his hand and say "Nice to meet you Dave." This lets the person know you are interested enough to remember his name.

  3. Step 3

Ask her questions about herself--keep her talking. Be careful not to talk too much about yourself. Let her know you're interested in what she has to say and make a few jokes to show your sense of humor.

  4. Step 4

Tell him you would love to see him again. Make sure not to linger too long--you want to keep him interested without being overbearing.

  5. Step 5

Ask for her phone number. Keep it simple--after telling her you want to see her again, smile and ask if you can call her, maybe go out sometime. If you have a business card, hand her one and ask for hers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Call if you say you will. If you make the effort to get to know someone and he or she responds, respect him or her enough to call.
  • Avoid cheesy pickup lines. You may think they are clever, but someone else may not.
