Step 1
Purchase a lunchbox style Stove-to-Go in most truck stops or order it online. See the Resources section for a link. It works like a crock pot but the lunch box style keeps it flat and difficult to overturn, and the lunch box lid and latch keeps the food contained.
-
Step 2
Plan the meals for your trip, and purchase your groceries in advance to cook meals in your vehicle. This is especially important for semi drivers that can't get to the stores easily.
-
Step 3
Buy bread size disposable aluminum pans, aluminum foil, cooking bags, utensils to stir food and cooking mitts. Take a cooler to store the food if you don't have a refrigerator available.
-
Step 4
Roast a turkey breast, make casseroles and soups in the little stove, but you will need to adjust recipes to the 5 ½-cup capacity of the stove to cook meals in your vehicle. Use the starter recipe book that comes with the stove for ideas and exact measurements.
-
Step 5
Order the "Cook'n on the Go" cookbook written by semi-truck driver Virginia Harrington. She tells how to use the stove, shares cooking secrets and offers 98 pages of recipes.
-
Step 6
Take leftovers from a restaurant with you and warm them later. Cut your budget and time making meals with canned soup, canned foods or a simple hot dog.
-
Step 7
Drink hot coffee with your meal. Use a 12 volt Coffee-to-Go pot to make coffee or buy a 16 oz. plug-in cup that keeps already made coffee hot.
