You love jewelry, and maybe you've toyed with the notion of establishing your own jewelry store. But how do you sell jewelry and still be profitable? The key to turning a profit when selling jewelry is buying wholesale, then marking up the price to a reasonable charge for your customers. Here are some things to consider when buying wholesale jewelry.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Choose what type of wholesale jewelry you want to purchase. If you're looking for inexpensive parts to make jewelry for yourself as a hobby, you can find parts at an online shop. You can also find wholesale precious stones such as diamonds and semi-precious stones at wholesale jewelry stores on the Internet, as well as affordable beads for the latest beading craze.
Step2
Decide on what you will do with the jewelry. Are you planning to open a bead shop, so that customers can make their own jewelry using your supplies? Or you might be opting for a traditional jewelry shop in the center of town or just a web storefront.
Step3
Understand minimum orders. Many wholesale jewelry distributors have a minimum order of three pieces per item, and some have a minimum total order of $100. If you're going to purchase wholesale jewelry, you'll need to pay up front for your items.
Step4
Take note of volume discounts. If you know that you'll be needing more than 12 pieces of an item, take advantage of their volume discount that can shave a healthy amount off the total.
Step5
Pay attention to warranties and markings on the jewelry you're purchasing wholesale. Sterling silver items should be the .925 marking somewhere on the piece. Gold pieces should be clearly marked as well.
