How to Start a Remote-Controlled Car Hobby

Remote-controlled cars provide a lot of entertainment and enjoyment for many people. While it is true there are many different types of remote-controlled cars, many of which are extremely advanced, it's easy to start a remote-controlled car hobby.

Things You'll Need:

• Electric remote controlled car.
• NiCd battery pack and charger.
• Two-channel radio system.

1. Choose either an electric or a nitro remote-controlled car. When you first start a remote-controlled car hobby, an electric remote controlled is easier to use and maintain than a nitro one.

2. Decide between an on-road and an off-road remote-controlled car. On-road cars tend to have smaller wheels and sit lower to the ground. You cannot operate them on uneven surfaces. Off-road cars have larger wheels and provide a greater degree of flexibility.

3. Purchase either a "Ready to Run" (RTR) or an "Almost Ready to Run" (ARTR) remote-controlled car. RTR cars come with a radio controller, while ARTR cars don't. After you practice the hobby for a while, you may wish to purchase a remote-controlled car kit, which you assemble yourself.

4. Find other remote controlled car enthusiasts to race, learn from and share your hobby.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't operate your remote controlled car without a fully-charged battery. Using a battery that is not fully charged can cause you to lose control of your car. In addition, make certain to drain the battery before you recharge it, as this extends your battery life.
