Fun and interesting gift ideas are not always easy to find. But making a towel cake for a bridal shower is sure to be a fun way to present your gift to the bride-to-be and get compliments from everyone in attendance.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2 Regular white bath towels
  • 3 White hand towels
  • 3 White wash cloths
  • Large safety pins and straight pins
  • Thick ribbon
  • Decorative gifts or accessories to add flare, optional
Step1
Lay the towels out lengthwise, and fold them into thirds long ways (facing the towel's longest side, fold the top portion a third of the way to the bottom, and then fold the bottom edge to meet the upper-most edge remaining). Make sure you keep the folds even to ensure a uniform look to the bottom layer of the bridal towel cake. Then fold the towels in half lengthwise with the previous folds touching.
Step2
Pin the two fully folded towels together so that they are end to end. Using the large safety pins, pin the shortest ends of each folded towel together to form one long line of folded towels lengthwise. Then roll the two towels into one long roll. As you make the bridal towel cake, keep in mind that the cake needs to look stable and aesthetically pleasing.
Step3
Place the rolled towels flat on your work area. Make sure that the towels are rolled tightly and that the edges of the towels are not showing on the top of the layer. They should be facing down. If your towels were rolled neatly, the top of this first layer should be relatively flat.
Step4
Keep the towels securely rolled together by tying ribbon around the layer, or using straight pins to fasten them together. Remember that as you make the towel cake for a bridal shower, the finished product should look neat and tidy. That means that you should keep all of your steps neat and tidy and well pinned together to avoid bunching.
Step5
Use the same steps as you did for the bath towels with the three hand towels. You should fold them only halfway to the opposite edge of the hand towel to ensure a consistent height with the bottom of your cake. You can use the first layer to measure.
Step6
Put the hand towel layer on top of the bath towel layer and then move on to the hand towels. Use the same steps as for the previous two layers and place the hand towels on the very top of the cake.
Step7
Secure all three layers of your bridal towel cake together with decorative ribbon. Make sure you use enough ribbon to cover the entire cake, and you can tie a bow or use some other decoration at the top. Think of the bridal cakes you have seen--the decorative options are limitless.
