You finally decided to redecorate that guest bedroom. Now that you have the wall colors and window coverings chosen, it's time to think of furniture. Adding a new bed to the room can complete the look you want to achieve. Try a wrought-iron headboard. Follow these steps to make a wrought-iron headboard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine the size of the headboard that you need. Measure the mattress that you will use in the room and make the wrought iron headboard slightly wider than that. You can also measure the width of the bed frame if needed.

  2. Step 2

Gather the wrought iron that you will use to make the headboard. You can either purchase some or find some lying around a scrap yard. Be sure to clean the wrought iron of any rust if using wrought iron found in a scrap yard. Seal the wrought iron with rust-prevention paint if needed.

  3. Step 3

Lay out the pattern of the wrought-iron headboard on the ground. This will create a good visual effect to help make final design decisions. Rearrange the pieces until you are happy with the final look of the headboard.

  4. Step 4

Take a picture of the pattern lying on the ground. You can use the picture as a reference when permanently placing the pieces together to make the wrought-iron headboard.

  5. Step 5

Weld the final product together. Start with the outer edges and finish with any detailed work last. Allow the welds to cool completely before moving on to the next piece. This will help avoid burns and bends in the wrought iron.

  6. Step 6

Secure the final wrought iron headboard to the bed frame with welds. If you do not want to weld it permanently then simply wedge the headboard between the wall and the mattress.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear proper safety equipment when using welding products.
