Blogger is very easy blogging software to use, especially for the technologically-challenged person. However, there are many features you might want that aren't available directly in the setup interface, and so you have to find other ways to add those features. For example, you might want to add a bookmarking widget to a blogger blog, which requires you to edit your blogger template.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a bookmarking widget to add to your Blogger blog. Examples of bookmarking widgets include AddThis, Sociable, ShareThis and I Love Social Bookmarking.

  2. Step 2

Copy the code from the bookmarking widget's website to your clipboard.

  3. Step 3

Log in to Blogger. From the Blogger Dashboard, select "Layout" for the blog to which you want to add the bookmarking widget. Select "Edit HTML" to get into your Blogger template.

  4. Step 4

Check the box labeled "Expand Widget Templates." Search for the text, "post-body."

  5. Step 5

Insert a line after the "post-body" text. Paste the bookmarking widget code on that line.

  6. Step 6

Click "Preview" to see what your blog will look like with the bookmarking widget. Closely preview the page, watching for any inconsistencies or design errors. If there are errors, click "Clear Edits" and start over.

  7. Step 7

Select "Save Template" once your preview looks the way you want it to look. Click "View Blog" to see how things look now that you've added a bookmarking widget to a Blogger blog.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be especially careful when editing your blogger template. If you delete something or add something incorrectly it could make your blog inoperable. Always preview your changes before making them permanent.
