How to Run for the Board in a Condo
The Board of a Condo Association runs the condo complex, pays common bills, enacts new rules and regulations, and enforces existing condo laws. Help govern your condo complex and run for the condo board. Find your condo's rules and regulations about board membership before beginning your campaign to ensure you follow all the steps required by your condo community.

1
Review your condominium by-laws, declarations, rules and regulations. Look for provisions relating to board membership eligibility, regulations concerning campaigns, board duties and responsibilities. Contact your lawyer and insurance agent and review issues relating to board liability and the cost of Directors and Officers Insurance. Contact the existing board and ask for a copy of the D&O insurance policy purchased for sitting board members. Review the policy with your lawyer and insurance agent to determine if you need additional D&O insurance to protect your assets for actions you take while on the condo board.
-
2
Follow the procedures set forth in your condominium by-laws for running for board membership. Notify the existing board secretary you want to run for a position on the board. Ask if the board sends out information concerning candidates for open seats. Compile a resume to submit to the condo residents either through official notices from the board or through personally distributing the information to fellow condo owners.

3
Contact all condo owners and ask for their vote in the upcoming election. Send a letter detailing your reasons for seeking board membership and your qualifications for running the condo association. Follow up with a phone call close to election day and ask for each voter's support. Encourage everyone to attend the association meeting where the vote will occur.
-
4
Arrange for condo owners unable to attend the voting meeting to give their voting proxy to you or one of your supporters. Provide the written paperwork required by your condo's rules and regulations to assist owners in transferring their voting proxies to you or your supporters.
-
5
Vote for yourself and vote all proxies given to you at the election. Wait for the official results and see if you are the new member of your condo board.
