If you always press "Enter" after entering a URL into your address bar, you may want to consider removing the "Go" button next to it. Removing the "Go" button from Firefox results in a less cluttered Firefox toolbar and a bigger address bar with which to work. Follow these tips to remove the "Go" button from Firefox.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Select "File" and "New Tab" from the browser menu so that a new tab will open.
Step2
Enter "about:config" in the address bar and press "Enter."
Step3
Navigate to the "Filter" field and type "browser.urlbar.hideGoButton" in the box.
Step4
Verify that the value is set to "False." Highlight the "Preference Name" and double-click on it to change the value to "True."
Step5
Exit out of all windows and close down your browser.
Step6
Restart your browser so that the change will take effect.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try right-clicking on the "Go" button, selecting "Customize" and dragging the "Go" button off of the toolbar and into the icon bank to remove any remaining traces of the "Go" button on Firefox's navigation toolbar.
  • You may also remove the "Go" button from Firefox by manipulating the "userChrome.css" file. To do this, you'll need to download the ChromEdit Plus extension.
  • This method will only work with Firefox 2. Removing the "Go" button from Firefox 3 may be difficult.
