How to Set New Mail Display Time in Mozilla Thunderbird
As a Mozilla Thunderbird user, you're aware of the way Mozilla Thunderbird displays new mail with a pop-up notification at the bottom right of your computer screen. If you find that the pop-up display doesn't stay up long enough for you to read, follow these tips to customize the display time.
Instructions

-
1
Start Mozilla Thunderbird.
-
2
Select "Tools" and "Options" from Mozilla Thunderbird's program menu. Click on the "Advanced" icon and the "General" tab. Press "Config Editor" to the left of the "Advanced Configuration" title and allow a pop-up window to populate with lists of functions.
-
-
3
Type "alerts.totalOpenTime" in the "Filter" field. Click on the resulting "Preference Name" line two times.
-
4
Navigate to the "Enter Integer Value" pop-up and view the default value listed in the field. The value in the field will be listed in milliseconds. Change this value to the amount of milliseconds that you'd like the display notification box to remain on the screen. For example, "3000" in the field box equals 3 seconds. If you don't want to convert the time into milliseconds, simply enter the number of seconds that you'd prefer the display screen to show and add 3 zeros to the end of it.
-
5
Click "OK" and exit out of the "about:config" and "Options" screen by clicking "OK" once again.
-
6
Restart Mozilla Thunderbird.
-
7
Send a few test emails to your own email address to test out the modified display time. Go back and make any necessary changes so that the display time is set to your preference.
