How to Mount a Poster

There are many ways to mount a poster, but most of them are either expensive or can cause damage to a poster. Tacks and pins leave permanent holes in the poster and the wall. Poster putty can stain the poster and often does not hold the poster. Poster frames mount a poster safely, but can be expensive. Using box tape you can mount a poster safely and cheaply.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach a piece of box tape to each corner of the back of the poster. Cut the strips about 6 inches long. You can also place additional strips of box tape in the center of the top and on the sides to ensure the poster will not fall.

    • 2

Make loops out of the box tape. Make one loop for each piece of box tape you have attached to the poster. The loops when flattened should not be longer than the strips of box tape attached to the poster. The loops are what you'll use to mount the poster to the wall.

    • 3

Place the box tape loops over the box tape strips on the poster.

    • 4

Hold it up to the wall. Firmly press the poster where each loop is located. The loops flatten out as you mount the poster.

    • 5

Take the poster down after you mount it by removing the loops. If the loops do not come off, cut them off leaving only the portion which is flat.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase quality box tape. Cheap box tape can leave residue and may not hold the poster.

  • Use clear box tape. If you mount the poster with colored box tape, the tape may show through the poster.

  • Avoid trying to remove any loops which have become attached directly to the poster. This can damage the poster. Cut the loops instead.
