Streaks on laminate flooring are often caused by overuse of cleaning substances or use of cleaners not designed for laminate floors. Changing your cleaning products and methods can help you prevent streaks. Here's a few suggestions to keep your laminate flooring in the best condition.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Toss out your old cleaner and switch to a cleaning product designed specifically for laminate flooring. Many cleaning products people use are general-use products.

  2. Step 2

Use a home-made, chemical-free solution of a 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar to a gallon of warm water. Use a damp mop on streaked areas to remove previous cleaning products. If you're not comfortable using a vinegar solution, use plain water.

  3. Step 3

Rinse the mop or sponge to remove dirt and previous cleaners picked up from the floor. Clean the entire floor only when necessary.

  4. Step 4

Wipe the floor with an old towel or microfiber cloth. Shine and buff the flooring by drying it as you mop. This prevents water from seeping into the joints and keeps laminate floors in good condition.

  5. Step 5

Spot clean between mopping by using a spray bottle and rag, or a dry mop. Streaks may occur in small areas if the dry mop is used in the same spot a few times, clean that area with the vinegar solution.

Tips & Warnings
  • If excess water seeps into the joints of the flooring, it can cause it to swell.
  • The homemade cleaning solution for laminate flooring is easy to make and inexpensive. It's also environmentally friendly and safe for children and pets.
