In need of some kitchen curtains? Here is a quick and easy way to make café-style kitchen curtains out of simple dish towels. Not only odes this project add whimsy and style to any kitchen. It is ideal for tight budgets. All you need are kitchen dish towels, grommets and a sewing machine.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure your kitchen windows. Most dish towels measure around 14-by-20 inches. Hold up a kitchen towel to the window to see roughly how many you will need to make café curtain panels.

  2. Step 2

Purchase flour sack style dish towels rather than terry cloth towels. These come in a variety of colors, patterns and styles. They will let in more light (because of their lightweight material) than thicker terry dish towels.

  3. Step 3

Iron the dish towels flat, using low heat and spray starch. You do not need to wash them before sewing and hanging.

  4. Step 4

Sew the dish towels together lengthwise into two café curtain panels.

  5. Step 5

Attach grommets to the top of the dish towel curtains, using a grommet tool kit and hammer. You can pick up a grommet kit in the sewing section of most stores.

  6. Step 6

Hang the panels on a round curtain rod.

Tips & Warnings
  • If the dish towel is too short for your window, but two towels are too long, add a wide ribbon hem or cut a towel in half and sew it to the bottom of the first towel.
  • Instead of grommets you can use brass curtain clips to hang your dish towel curtains.
  • Make a matching valance in the same fashion. Use the same flour sack towels, cut in half, or coordinating napkins or washcloths.
