You can change your spelling preferences in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional to change dictionaries, turn on or off spell check during typing and choose the underline color to flag misspelled words. Follow the steps below to set the spelling preferences in Adobe Acrobat.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional

Step1
Start Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional, choose the "Edit" menu and click "Preferences." The "Preferences" dialog box will open in Acrobat.
Step2
Select "Spelling" from the "Categories" scroll box on the left side of the "Preferences" dialog box. Scroll down in order to bring it into view, if necessary. After you have selected it you will see the spelling preferences displayed on the right side of the dialog box.
Step3
Check the "Check spelling while typing" to display an underline under words that are not in the Adobe Acrobat dictionary while you are typing in the document. Unchecking the box will turn off this option.
Step4
Click on the color well beside "Underline color" if you have chosen to leave the "Check spelling while typing" option enabled. Choose a color for the underline from the swatches or click on "Other Color" to choose from the whole spectrum of colors.
Step5
Designate a dictionary from the list of dictionaries in the "Dictionaries" scroll box.
Step6
Use the "Up" or "Down" buttons to the right of the "Dictionaries" scroll box to change the position of the selected dictionary in the list.
Step7
Choose the "Check" button to check the spelling in any PDF documents using the selected dictionary. Click the "OK" button to close the "Preferences" dialog box and save your spelling preferences.
