Ninjitsu, like any effective martial arts technique, is based on being able to block and parry attacks from an opponent and turn those attacks around immediately to score points or injure your opponent. A few steps will help you block and parry with ninjitsu techniques.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Establish a proper stance by keeping your feet shoulder width apart and the center of your chest towards your opponent. Extend your front hand to about 70% of maximum extension and raise or lower your arm so that your hand is level with your chin or nose. Position your back hand so that your palm faces the biceps of your forward arm.

  2. Step 2

Begin using deflection blocks as the basis of ninjitsu blocking and parrying by using your open hand to simply redirect an opponent's fist so the force of the punch moves past you. This requires only a small motion of pushing your opponent fist to the side while moving the elbow of your blocking arm as little possible. Keep your fingers together and your thumb against your hand to parry this way.

  3. Step 3

Attack as you block whenever possible by using ninjitsu blocks like the Jodan yuke, which has you move away from your opponent's offending fist as your arm transcribes a circle towards your opponent that culminates in striking underneath his offending arm or on his upper ribs that are exposed by his strike.

  4. Step 4

Parry leg strikes by advancing your shin against your opponent's offending leg immediately as your opponent begins the strike. Stopping the kicking leg early by gating it with your shin prevents the leg from gaining force, thereby allowing you catch your opponent off guard and counterattack with a strong ninjitsu strike.
