How to Make a Blow Gun With a Plastic Pipe

Making a blow gun out of a plastic pipe is both easy and fun. With your pipe blow gun you should be able to accurately hit targets several dozen yards away. Here's how to make your plastic pipe blow gun.

Instructions

1. Get a length of plastic PVC pipe. You want the interior diameter of the pipe to be about three-quarters of an inch in diameter and for the pipe's walls to be quite thin. The longer the length of pipe, the more powerful it will be. Between 4 and 6 feet is a good length.

2. Create a mouthpiece for your blow gun. You will need a piece that you can fit your mouth around at that you can seal to the end of the gun. One way to do this is to take a film canister or pill bottle, cut a hole in its bottom slightly smaller than the diameter of the pipe and then melt the edges of the hole before pushing onto the pipe.

3. Find some darts. You need long thin lengths of either wood, plastic or metal. Something that works well is metal coat hangers. You can cut out the straight part and form darts with it. Feel free to sharpen your darts as well, if you want them to penetrate hard targets.

4. Put a rear piece onto the end of your darts. Make cones of duct tape whose wide diameter is the same as the interior diameter of the pipe and fasten these with more tape onto the end of your dart, with the wide end pointing out. The darts should stick inside the pipe so that they won't slide around, but not so much that you can't shake them out.

5. Test fire your blow gun at a target. It should have a range of at least a few dozen yards.

• This blow gun can propel darts at extremely high speeds. Never aim the blow gun at people and be sure to use it only in an area clear of bystanders.
