How to Make a Snow Cat

If you love playing in the snow and making snow men, you might like making snow animals. Use snow to create a family of cats in your yard by forming shapes and adding details. Make a snow cat using these tips.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a day when the snow is slightly wet so the snow, called packing snow, sticks together. Make a small snowball and pack it tightly so it doesn't fall apart.

    • 2

Roll the snowball across the ground and create a large round base or body for the snow cat. Pack a second snowball together and roll it on the ground until it is half of the size of the cat's body. Place the head on top of the body and attach it with extra packing snow so it doesn't fall off.

    • 3

Form triangular ears using small amounts of snow and forming the shapes with your hands. Use a stick to carve eye sockets and a mouth on the head. Place small brown stones in the eye sockets and place twigs in the face of the cat to create whiskers. Form a long snow tail along the ground.

    • 4

Sculpt the cat from a large block of snow if you don't want to start from scratch. Start with the body of the cat and carve up to create a head. Make sure you add whiskers and ears to the sculpture. Create a tail along the ground or pointing up toward the body. Use a small hand shovel or chisel to carve your cat.

    • 5

Color your sculpture to make it more lifelike. Use brown or black spray paint for a natural looking cat or leave the body white and paint the ears pink and the eyes brown. Use vibrant colors like hot pink or bright blue for a psychedelic looking cat that really stands out in the snow.
