Muay Thai boxing originated in Thailand and its name means, Thai martial arts. In Muay Thai boxing, a well-executed punch can prove powerful. The body punch is similar to an uppercut move in regular boxing and is one of the four essential punches of Muay Thai. This technique can be practiced alone or with a partner.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with the legs apart knees bent with the left leg forward in front of the knee. Raise the arms, bent at the elbow and in front of the chest.

  2. Step 2

Lean forward so that the head is in front of the right knee and the back leg is straight. This defensive position includes bringing the head and arms closer into the chest. Curl the hands into fists with the thumb on the outside of the closed palm.

  3. Step 3

Shift your weight over to your left side as you move the right arm backward away from the head and bring the left arm up in a punch.

  4. Step 4

Perform the actual punch by pushing the right arm straight palm upward into an uppercut. If you have a partner, the punch would catch him on the left side of the rib cage.

  5. Step 5

Cover the sides of the head with the arms in a defensive position as you retreat from the punch and straighten the body back up.
