How to Identify and Remove Computer Virus Icodec

The Icodec virus is a spyware virus which can cause unwanted and unstoppable pop-ups and interruptions to your normal computing. While the virus does not pose a risk to your data, it can be annoying and make using your computer challenging. You must first determine your problem is caused by Icodec and then you can take steps to remove it.

        Look for pop-up windows which do not appear to originate from websites you're browsing. The Icodec virus will cause pop-ups telling you your computer is in danger along with solicitations to purchase anti-virus software. Often, these pop-ups will have a yellow triangle which may flash. Sometimes pop-ups for adult or gambling websites can also occur.

        Narrow down your problem to the Icodec virus. Other viruses can cause pop-up windows. If you're experiencing unexplained pop-up windows, verify the programs pmmon.exe and pmsngr.exe are running on your computer.

        Hold down "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" simultaneously on your keyboard. Click on the "Processes" tab and look for pmsngr.exe and pmmon.exe. If you see these files in the list, you likely have the Icodec virus.

        Boot your computer into safe mode to begin removing the virus. To do this, hold down the "F8" key while restarting your computer. When the list of boot options comes up, choose "Safe Mode."

        Remove the Icodec folder on your computer. To do this, while in safe mode navigate to the Program Files folder and look for a folder named IcodecPack. Drag this file to the Recycle Bin and empty the Recycle Bin. This removes the virus.

        Restart your computer and boot it back up into the standard mode. If Icodec virus symptoms reappear, you may need to boot back into safe mode and delete the Icodec folder again.
