Nintendo's Pokémon Diamond/Pearl is the first game in the series designed for the DS. It follows the same plot line as earlier games. Pokémon role-playing games have sold millions of copies over the past 10 years. Pokémon Diamond/Pearl's designer, Game Freak, continued with the familiar format.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Defeat the Elite Four in Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire. Box six Pokémon to transfer into Pokémon Diamond.

  2. Step 2

Start a new game and choose your starter Pokémon. Unlike earlier games, the starters are more balanced. Fire types are rare in Diamond/Pearl. A player who likes Fire types should choose Chimcar. He will have a hard time in the first Gym battle but will rapidly grow in power.

  3. Step 3

Collect a diverse group of Pokémon for your first team. Water, Psychic and Fighting types are important to have. Choose 10 to 12 Pokémon to be your core group.

  4. Step 4

Battle everyone. Your Pokémon get stronger through combat and new Pokémon expands your Pokedex. Your first team needs to be between levels 55 to 60 before facing the Elite Four.

  5. Step 5

Plug Ruby into the Game Boy Advance slot in the DS and start Diamond. Normally two options show at the beginning of Diamond. With the GBA plugged in, you have a third option, "Migrate Pokémon." The Pokémon you select will be removed from the GBA and stored in the Diamond's Pal Park. Load your Diamond, save game and visit Pal Park where you will capture your old Ruby Pokémon.

  6. Step 6

Travel to Pastoria City and visit the Move Relearner. Teach your old Ruby Pokémon new Diamond moves. After seeing and capturing 150 Pokémon, your can upgrade your Pokedex, then travel to Celestic Town.

  7. Step 7

Ride north and visit the old woman in the center house. She will give you a picture of Palkia or Dialga. Travel to Sandgem town and speak with the professor who will give you the National Dex. Trade, fight and battle until you have captured all of the Diamond Pokémon.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the binoculars on the second floor in the Safari Zone to locate new Pokémon. Walk to that area of the Safari Zone. Stand in one place and turn around. Your step count stops increasing and you can stay in the zone until you have used all your Pokeballs.
  • Each GBA gamepak migrates Pokémon to Diamond once a day.
