How to Make Vegetable Gift Wrap
Gifts wrapped with your own handmade vegetable gift wrap will have the mark of your own unique personality and style. Vegetable gift wrap is also inexpensive, creative, and a simple but fun project for kids and adults to do together.
Things You'll Need
- Newspapers or old vinyl tablecloth
- Apron or oversized shirt
- Large roll of white or brown butcher paper
- Tempera paint or poster paint
- Pie tins or clean margarine containers to use as paint pots
- Sponge brushes
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Green peppers
- Potatoes
- Mushrooms

Pour a variety of paint colors into some old pie tins or margarine containers.

Place the green pepper on a cutting board, and cut it into thin rings. Remove the seeds and veins, and discard them. Slice the potato into thin slices, and cut a design into the potato, if desired. Slice the mushroom into thin slices.

Dry the green pepper, potato and mushroom slices with a paper towel.

Dip the sponge brush into the paints, and brush one side of each vegetable just enough to coat it.

Use the vegetables to stamp designs onto the paper, recoating them with paint, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
Cover your work area with newspapers or old vinyl table clothes, and wear an apron or an old shirt to protect your clothing.
Experiment with other vegetables. As long as they're firm, they'll work beautifully for vegetable gift wrap.
You can make fruit gift wrap in the same way. Firm fruits such as apples work very well.
