Nearly all modern IRC (Internet Relay Chat) networks employ a service called Nickserv to help users register and manage personal nicknames. IRC networks are available worldwide and many IRC users are from outside North America. You can personalize Nickserv to interact with your local timezone and one of several languages.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log on to the IRC network with your Nickserv nickname.

  2. Step 2

Determine the time zone name or UTC (Universal Coordinated Time or Greenwich Mean Time). Find the correct 3-letter code, such as EDT for Eastern Daylight Time or JST for Japan Standard Time. Use the time zone name in Nickserv.

  3. Step 3

Offset the UTC. Program a numerical adjustment such as -5 to identify the timezone 5 hours behind UTC, or +7:30 to identify the timezone 7 hours and 30 minutes a head of UTC.

  4. Step 4

Send a query to Nickserv telling it what time zone or UTC offset to use. Use the standard command followed by the 3-letter time zone name or numerical UTC offset code.

  5. Step 5

Change the timezone manually to account for daylight savings.

  6. Step 6

Identify the language to use with Nickserv. Find out if that language is available. Use the language number from the list Nickserv provides to tell Nicksrev.

Tips & Warnings
  • Syntax for communicating with Nickserv may vary. Use /msg Nickserv HELP SET LANGUAGE for a list of available languages. Send a message to Nickserv with just the word "help" to receive a list of Nickserv commands.
