How to Set or Hide IRC Nickname Information With Nickserv

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is oldest chat room on the Internet. Today's IRC networks help users maintain a constant identify. It lso allows use of multiple nicknames by employing a service called Nickserv. You can use Nickserv to register a personal nickname, and also maintain your privacy.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Log on to the IRC network. Identify yourself to Nickserv using your nickname password.

  2. Step 2

    Restrict your nickname from appearing Nicksrev's public nickname registration list with the "private" command. To turn privacy on using the Nickserv command. If you no longer need to hide your nickname, turn it off later.

  3. Step 3

    Keep additional details private using the "Hide" command. You can keep your email address, last used webhost host mask, and quit message private. Each of these three details can be hidden separating using a combination of the detail name and either "On" or "Off" setting.

  4. Step 4

    Hide your email address using the command with the detail name "Email" and "Off" setting.

  5. Step 5

    Disguise your last host mask using the "Hide" command with the detail name "Usermask" and the "Off" setting.

  6. Step 6

    Prevent other users from reading your last quit message using the "Hide" command with the detail name "Quit" and the "Off" setting.

Tips & Warnings
  • Syntax for communicating with Nickserv may vary. The syntax above is for the IRC Services version. Message Nickserv with the word "Help" to receive a list of Nickserv commands.
  • The basic Nickserv command is, forward slash, msg, Nickserv and a statement indicating request. For example, /msg Nickserv SET PRIVATE ON, sets the privacy function.
