Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Try a laptop computer. People are afraid of using laptops because they are so small. However, if you get the right one that will fulfill all your needs you will be happy to use it on a regular basis--and once you try one it will be hard going back to a desktop.
Step2
Look at the laptops that are on the market. You can talk to the salesperson to be sure you are getting the right laptop for you. Find out how much memory is on the laptop, how large the hard drive is and how much RAM the computer has. You should know what your requirements are before you start looking at laptops so you know what you want.
Step3
Check out the hardware the computer has. You need to be sure there are enough ports for all your needs, that there is a CD/DVD drive and that the monitor is large enough for you.
Step4
Decide if you want to have a numeric keypad on your keyboard--larger laptops do come with them, or you can buy a detachable keyboard and mouse. Many people don't want laptops because they feel they have to use the built in mouse, but you can hook up a mouse just as you would to a desktop computer.
