When Johnson & Johnson employees invented duct tape in the 1940s, they probably had no idea this utilitarian product would eventually be used in so many ways. Creative duct tape enthusiasts have used it to fashion prom dresses, purses and all kinds of decorating crafts. A duct tape pillow may not be Martha Stewart's first decorating choice, but you might like the idea of duct tape decor.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Duct tape
  • Plastic bag
  • Pillow stuffing
  • Ruler
  • Teflon coated scissors or rotary cutter
  1. Step 1

Gather together scraps of the smoothest duct tape you can locate in your choice of colors. Duct tape is no longer just boring gray. If you don't have scraps, check the hardware super store for the largest variety.

  2. Step 2

Decide the size of your duct tape pillow. If you're using scraps, they will dictate the size of your pillow.

  3. Step 3

Cut a plastic bag to your pillow dimensions, and fill with commercial pillow stuffing, quilt batting or any other type of stuffing you want to use. Seal the bag with duct tape. You can use any color here, because it won't show on your finished product.

  4. Step 4

Measure the duct tape with a ruler, if you are not using scraps, and cut strips to your desired size. To avoid a build up of adhesive on your scissors, use Teflon coated scissors or a rotary cutter.

  5. Step 5

Cover the plastic bag with duct tape in any pattern you want. Start by sticking the first piece to the bag. Continue layering the strips, with each new strip covering half of the one before it. Cover the entire bag this way. Be creative with your choice of pattern and color.
