How to Make a Profile On AIM

Express yourself to new and existing friends by creating your own AIM profile. Share your favorite photos, quotes and hobbies. Find friends with similar interests. Load photos of a recent concert or party you attended. Personalize your profile by adding free AIM profile themes, away messages and buddy icons.

Instructions

1. Access the AIM profile creation page one of two ways. The first option is to launch AIM on your computer and then select "My Profile" from the Edit menu. The second option is to go to the AIM website, navigate to "AIM Profiles," select "Edit My Profile" and enter your AIM username and password.

2. Describe yourself in the "About Me" section. Don't be afraid to show your personality. Include details about the novels you are currently reading, your new garden layout, the model airplane you are putting together or even your favorite charity. The goal is to give your profile visitors a glance of who you are.

3. Click on the "My Photo" link to upload a picture of yourself from your computer. The photo does not have to be a traditional portrait. It might be a candid shot of you at a recent concert or family barbecue. To give it even more personality you might include a picture of both you and your pet.

4. Fill in the "Personal Details" section. Exercise caution by skipping the "Last Name," "Currently Residing," "Hometown" and other sections you aren't comfortable sharing online. Have fun adding your favorite quotes, occupation and links to your websites. Include the type of people you want to network with under the "Looking For" area.

5. Personalize your profile even more by clicking on the "Interests" section. Add your favorite music, movies, books, television shows and activities to this area. Have a little fun by listing anything you want under the "Love it" and "Hate it" areas.

6. Add the latest photos of your friends and family in the "Photos" section. Do this by following the "Add photos now" link. Load up to five photos at a time by clicking on the "Browse" button and choosing the photo from the location on your computer. Add photos to an existing album or create a new album. Choose the "Add Photos" button to save your changes and return to the main profile creation page.

7. Install free AIM profile themes, away messages and buddy icons found on the AIM website or by searching online.

• Use your AIM profile as your personal web page. Link your profile to other social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.
• Have fun with your AIM profile but do not add information that is too personal. Remember to protect your privacy by not sharing your home address or phone number.
