How to Make a Cowboy Using Keyboard Symbols

With the advancement of technology, handwritten notes are fast becoming part of the past, replaced by those funny little characters people use to punctuate sentences or add at the end of emails. One of the most famous of these is the keyboard smiley face. Add a cute twist to it by turning the smiley face into a cowboy keyboard symbol.

Difficulty: Easy

Step1

Create the hat for the cowboy by typing an equals sign for the top and a right square bracket for the brim of the hat. If you turn your head to the side, it should look similar to an old fashioned, ten-gallon hat. =]

Step2

Type the face, just as you would for the generic smiley face by typing the colon keyboard symbol followed by the close parenthesis. This puts the face under the ten-gallon hat, =]:)

Step3

Make a villain cowboy by giving him a mustache and a pointy beard. Take a page from old westerns where the bad guy always wears black by bolding the keyboard symbols for a darker appearance. Create the hat and eyes as directed above but use the open brace and a close angle bracket, =]:{>

Step4

Invent the lovable hero by making the cowboy happy. Under the hat, use the colon for eyes and an upper case letter "D" for the wide-open mouth, =]:D

Put some emotion into the cowboy hero by using the variations of the smiley face along with the symbols used for the hat. The cowboy can be sad, :( angry :{ or silly ;p. Each of these uses the colon for the eyes, or a semi-colon for a winking eye and the mouth is an open parenthesis, an open bracket or a lower case p for the closed mouth with a tongue sticking out.
