How to Find Toothpaste That Doesn't Burn
Commercials show people smiling while brushing their teeth and walking away with a clean, minty fresh mouth. Unfortunately, many people don't have the same experience. Look for natural ingredients. These natural ingredients are less likely to cause irritation in the mouth, including burning. Much more mild than commercial brands, they clean just as effectively. Check to see if the toothpaste has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal on it.

2
Make sure that the toothpaste has an alternative to fluoride, or that one of the top four ingredients is one that fights cavities. A common ingredient is sodium monoflourophosphate.

Discuss your general dental health with your dentist and ask her to look at any sores that may be agitated by brushing. Often dentists can determine if the toothpaste causes the sores and may suggest switching to a mild formula that doesn't burn until the sores clear up. Then they will see if the sores flare up when you return to the normal brand of toothpaste.

Ask your physician to check for allergies. You may be allergic to the peppermint or other oils added to the toothpaste. Your doctor can devise a plan to experiment with different types of toothpastes to see which ingredient causes the burning sensation so you can find a better toothpaste that doesn't burn.

Try toothpaste made for kids fortified with fluoride but without the minty oils that many adult formulas contain. Specifically designed to taste pleasant to children, this option trades the burning sensation for a sweet effect that doesn't burn.
