How to Find a Date for the Dance

It's hard to face an upcoming social event, like a dance, if you don't have a date. Sometimes it is fun to go stag, or just with a group of friends, but sometimes you really just want to be part of a couple, if only for one night.

Get Asked

1. Make it known that you are available. When you are with a group of people, including boys, ask who all is going to the dance. Remark that you're looking forward to going but that you don't have a date yet. One of the boys may be wanting to ask you, but might be afraid you'll say no.
2. Talk to your friends who are going and who already have dates. Ask if their dates might have a friend available to set you up with.
3. Give someone the opportunity to ask you. If you are constantly surrounded by your friends, a potential date may be too shy to approach you. Spend some time alone, perhaps while at your locker or walking to class.

Ask Someone

4. Choose who you are going to ask. Remember that there are other people out there besides the most popular and beautiful guys and girls in school.
5. Find out if the person you want to ask already has a date either by asking him directly or asking other people who might know.
6. Approach her when you are both alone and just ask if she would like to go to the dance with you. Be simple and straightforward since you will probably be too nervous to remember anything elaborate.
7. Accept a "yes" answer gracefully by saying "thank you" and agreeing to work out the details later.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't be picky about who asks you. You may have an unexpected great time with someone you wouldn't normally hang out with.
• Don't let the risk of a "no" answer stop you from asking someone out. If the answer is "no" just say "thanks, anyway" with a smile.
