It can be tough to fit in at Elementary school, where many kids are adjusting to being around new people for the first time. A couple key strategies can help you to fit in at Elementary school, and hopefully make life-long friends in the process.

From Quick Guide: K-12 for Students
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask a classmate you like to play with you after school. Time spent with classmates outside of the classroom will help you to connect with them and build friendships that make it easier to fit in at school.

  2. Step 2

Invite classmates to your birthday parties. A fun birthday party will be remembered by you and your classmates, and give you enjoyable memories to talk about when you're back at school.

  3. Step 3

Join a school club or activity. Whether it's the school choir, art group or intramural sports, you'll meet lots of kids from all different grades to expand your circle of friends.

  4. Step 4

Talk to your teacher about where you sit in class. Sometimes, teachers choose where we have to sit in class, and it can be easier to make friends with the person you sit next to.

  5. Step 5

Share with your classmates. Whether it's the snacks from your lunch or your crayons, share with other kids and they will feel good about you and probably return the favor.

  6. Step 6

Help other kids. If you see another classmate struggling to fit in, be friendly with them. Other kids will follow your example to be kinder to others–including you.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't pick on other kids or act out in school just to impress your friends and fit in. This may make you feel popular with your classmates temporarily, but it will cause problems between you and your parents and teachers.
  • If you don't fit in at school and it's making you feel down, talk to a parent or teacher about it.
