FPS Creator GameGood game design is more than throwing a couple of villains and piles of treasure in a hastily made complex. Just like in every other media environment, a good game requires a solid storyline and believable characters. Programmers use First Person Shooter (FPS) Creator to focus on quality game design over detailed scripting.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Begin developing the storyline for your game. The villain is the most important character in the game. A good villain invites players to challenge and defeat him. Read heroic fiction and analyze each villain's motivation. The villain can be tragic, ruthless, comical or an antihero.
Step2
Design and define your hero. Give him a detailed origin. Answer why he becomes a hero and what is his defining moment. Choose who will be his allies in the game. Write a brief outline for each of them. Maintain minor conflict between the heroes and his allies. In good games, even heroes have separate agendas.
Step3
Review FPS available game packs for game models and ideas. Sketch the main characters. Write the game's story and create a storyboard for each game level. Include lights, puzzles, rooms, traps and foes. Purchase additional model packs for your game.
Step4
Translate the first level into FPS Creator. Click "Add New Prefab" in the Library Window. Select an object and drag it to the main design window, and then add all the rooms for your level.
Step5
Click the "Markers" tab, at the bottom of the Library window. Choose the "Player Start" green arrow. The "R" key rotates the arrow. Left click to place the icon in the game level.
Step6
Choose "Test Game" from the tool bar menu. Drag and drop room objects into the game level. Add foes and weapons to the game level by clicking the "Entities" tab. Continue periodically testing the game. Game designers will find bugs in the program using this technique.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid wide open game areas. It slows the game down.
  • Do not use more than four different weapons in the game. More guns slow game play and detract from the storyline.
